A 'trending topic' is something that many people are talking about, searching for, or sharing online and offline at a particular time. It means a subject has become very popular and is getting a lot of attention from a large number of people.
Simple Example
Quick Example
Imagine during the Cricket World Cup, everyone is talking about Virat Kohli's latest century. His performance becomes a 'trending topic' because it's what most people are discussing on social media, news channels, and even with their friends and family.
Worked Example
Step-by-Step
Let's see how a school event can become a 'trending topic' in your class:
1. **Start:** Your school announces a fancy dress competition for Republic Day.
---2. **Initial Buzz:** A few students start talking about their costume ideas with their friends.
---3. **Growing Interest:** The art teacher mentions the competition in class, and more students get excited.
---4. **High Engagement:** The school puts up posters, and the principal talks about it in assembly. Many students start planning their costumes, asking for help, and sharing ideas.
---5. **Peak Trend:** On Republic Day, everyone is dressed up, taking photos, and sharing them. The fancy dress competition is the main discussion point in school.
---6. **Result:** The fancy dress competition becomes the 'trending topic' in your school for that week because almost everyone is involved and talking about it.
