Agnirva Space Premier League - Expedition #30372: Seeing Fluid Science Clearly: CapiSorb Visible System in Orbit

The CapiSorb Visible System takes capillary science to the next level—by making it visible. This experiment, designed by a team from NASA Ames and led by Dr. Darrell Jan, explores how fluids can be absorbed and moved through specially designed structures using only capillary action. What's unique? This system includes a transparent module that lets researchers observe the entire fluid absorption process in microgravity. Understanding this is crucial for refining life support systems that recycle water or manage humidity aboard spacecraft. Traditional fluid systems are complex and prone to failure. CapiSorb could simplify these systems by using passive mechanisms. This means no motors, no noise, and less chance of mechanical breakdown. The insights gained here can be applied to both space missions and Earth-based applications, such as clean water systems in developing countries. It’s science you can see—literally—and its impact goes far beyond the lab.
