Agnirva Space Premier League - Expedition #30837: Fizika-LT: Thermal Physics Education Aboard the ISS

Part of the larger Fizika-Obrazovaniye initiative, Fizika-LT takes a deep dive into thermal physics under microgravity conditions. Carried out over four expeditions aboard the ISS, this experiment series sought to visualize heat conduction, convection, and radiation in ways impossible on Earth.

Without gravity, natural convection does not occur, fundamentally changing how heat moves through fluids. This makes space the ideal classroom to highlight the unique behaviors of thermal systems in zero-g. Students watching these demos could see first-hand how heat spreads without the usual rising-hot, sinking-cold fluid motions.

Fizika-LT also examined the properties of materials as they are heated and cooled, helping to demonstrate thermal expansion and temperature-driven phase transitions. It turned routine physical phenomena into captivating visual demonstrations that teachers could use to make lessons memorable.

For engineers and scientists, these observations also serve a practical purpose: they inform spacecraft design, especially in managing heat. But the true impact of Fizika-LT lies in education. By inspiring the next generation of physicists and engineers, the experiment turns the ISS into an orbiting classroom where learning is literally out of this world.
