Agnirva Space Premier League - Expedition #31102: The Future of Satellite Connectivity: Exploring the Intelligent Space System Interface

The Intelligent Space System Interface (ISSI) Flight Qualification Experiment is a leap forward in how we manage communications and power transfer in orbit. Developed by Spacebilt, this system seeks to standardize how spacecraft connect, interact, and exchange data. Much like how USB revolutionized computer interfaces, ISSI aims to become the universal connector for space systems. Onboard the ISS during Expeditions 66 through 68, this experiment tested its plug-and-play interface in real space conditions, focusing on durability, compatibility, and data transmission efficiency. The goal is to reduce the complexity of satellite servicing, allowing future spacecraft to link up seamlessly, whether for refueling, data sharing, or collaborative missions. A breakthrough like ISSI would enable modular construction in orbit, reduce satellite waste, and extend mission lifespans — all critical for future space infrastructure. By standardizing space system interfaces, we’re opening the door to a more connected, cooperative space environment.
