Agnirva Space Premier League - Expedition #31237: LEGO in Orbit: Promoting Creativity through Toys on the ISS

When we think of space experiments, we often picture high-tech science gear or medical breakthroughs. But sometimes, the goal is to inspire—and that’s exactly what happened when LEGO® bricks made their way to the International Space Station (ISS). Under the project “Commercial Promotion of LEGO® Toys,” led by A. Markov from RSC Energia, these colorful bricks served a unique purpose in orbit.

The experiment wasn't about testing materials or physics—it was about capturing the imagination of students and the general public. By showcasing LEGO models built aboard the ISS, the experiment encouraged kids to think about engineering, design, and space in creative ways.

Astronauts assembled LEGO sets in microgravity, demonstrating how everyday objects behave in space. The effort was captured on video and shared widely to boost interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The project also underscored how cultural activities play a crucial role in human spaceflight, offering astronauts a form of leisure and mental stimulation.

It’s a vivid reminder that education and inspiration are vital parts of space exploration. Whether building a Mars rover out of LEGO bricks or imagining future space habitats, students worldwide got a tangible connection to the ISS—proving that even the simplest toys can have a place among the stars.
