Space science isn’t just for big cities and major universities. The Yukon University Cube Satellite, part of the Northern Space Program for Innovative Research and Integrated Training, proves that the far north can lead in space technology too.
This small satellite, designed and developed with support from AlbertaSat and other Canadian institutions, was launched to the ISS and deployed into orbit. Its mission? To test innovative communication and environmental monitoring technologies in space.
Yukon’s CubeSat is more than just a scientific device—it’s an educational platform. It provided hands-on experience for students in electronics, programming, telemetry, and mission operations.
This project showcased the power of regional collaboration and inclusive innovation. It enabled students from diverse backgrounds, including indigenous communities, to participate in advanced space research.
From thermal testing to antenna calibration, students learned how to manage every step of a space mission lifecycle.
This CubeSat is a model of how small satellite platforms can democratize access to space and science education.
