Agnirva Space Premier League - Expedition #31844: Can Plants Breathe in Space? NASA’s Photosynthesis Experiment Has the Answer

Photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light into energy, is essential for life on Earth. But can it function in space? This experiment, led by Gary Stutte from the Limerick Institute of Technology and conducted on Expedition 4 of the ISS, tested plant growth systems and the viability of photosynthesis in microgravity. Understanding how plants respond to the space environment is crucial for long-term missions where they may serve as both oxygen generators and food sources. By examining plant responses and testing system reliability, this research lays the groundwork for self-sustaining life-support systems in future space habitats.
