Seeds II and MYST: Seed Packages is an educational and cultural initiative led by Volker Schmid from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bonn, Germany. This project, conducted during expeditions 65, 68, and 66, was designed to explore the growth patterns of seeds in microgravity. The research aimed to understand how the unique conditions in space affect seed germination and development. Through this experiment, ESA sought to inspire students and the public to engage with space science, while simultaneously advancing our understanding of plant biology in microgravity. The MYST (Microgravity Seed Test) package provided valuable insights into how various plant species adapt and grow in space, which is critical for future space missions where food cultivation in space will be essential. The results of this experiment have potential applications not only for space missions but also for improving agricultural practices on Earth.
