Principal Investigator Dr. Bin Tean Teh and the team from the Genome Institute of Singapore are leading this futuristic farming initiative. Alongside Space Applications Services from Belgium, they’ve designed protocols to expose the greens to space and then screen for positive traits upon their return to Earth.

Why Asian leafy greens? These plants are not only dietary staples in many parts of the world, but they are also ideal for indoor farming due to their fast growth and compact size. Enhanced versions of these greens could become the cornerstone of urban agriculture and even food systems for space missions.
