Agnirva Space Premier League - Expedition #32329: SPHERES-ZeroRobotics-Roscosmos: Global Coding Challenge in Microgravity

The SPHERES-ZeroRobotics-Roscosmos initiative is a brilliant example of international collaboration in educational outreach. Aimed at engaging students from Russia and other countries in the excitement of space, this project allows young programmers to control SPHERES satellites aboard the ISS. Like NASA’s counterpart program, it challenges participants to write algorithms that guide these satellites through obstacle courses and mission scenarios.

The primary goal is to stimulate interest in space sciences and programming through real-world challenges. This Russian iteration of Zero Robotics mirrors the structure of its American sibling: students develop code through simulations, compete in virtual rounds, and see the top programs executed in orbit.

The SPHERES—short for Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites—are small, self-contained testbeds for autonomous space operations. By working on SPHERES missions, students practice critical skills in logic, engineering, and mathematics, all while being mentored by scientists and astronauts.

Even more significantly, this program builds global friendships and scientific dialogue among participants. Students across cultures exchange ideas, solve problems, and celebrate their shared passion for space. For Roscosmos and its educational partners, this experiment underscores the belief that space is a global endeavor and that the next generation must be equipped to lead it together.

The SPHERES-ZeroRobotics-Roscosmos program doesn’t just inspire students—it unites them in the pursuit of scientific discovery.
