When students look up at the night sky, the stars seem distant. But thanks to the Saudi Space Agency’s Microgravity Challenge, those stars are now closer than ever. This educational initiative invites students to design and send experiments to the International Space Station, offering hands-on experience in space science.
Led by Dr. Siham Fatani and supported by Axiom Space and NASA, this challenge empowers young scientists to explore how gravity—or the lack of it—affects different materials, biological processes, and even daily objects. Participants from schools and universities across Saudi Arabia develop real scientific inquiries, test them in orbit, and analyze the results.
By engaging directly with space missions, students not only learn science—they become scientists. This initiative breaks down barriers to participation in space exploration, sparking innovation and fostering a culture of curiosity.
The Microgravity Challenge is more than a competition; it’s a launchpad for the future leaders of space technology and research. And it all happens in the zero-gravity lab of the ISS.
