What happens when you take seeds to space? That question lies at the heart of the 'Space Seeds for Asian Future' experiment conducted by JAXA. This educational and cultural initiative explores how seeds respond to the space environment and what we can learn from growing plants in microgravity.
Led by researchers from the Space Environment Utilization Center and JAXA, this project included a diverse array of seeds flown aboard the ISS during Expedition 35/36. These seeds experienced radiation, lack of gravity, and other unique conditions for an extended period.
Once returned to Earth, the seeds were distributed to schools and institutions across Asia for planting and observation. Students monitored growth patterns and compared them to control samples, fostering cross-border scientific collaboration and environmental awareness.
This initiative doesn't just teach plant biology—it inspires future generations of scientists and farmers. It’s about resilience, adaptation, and the boundless possibilities of agricultural science when taken beyond the Earth.
By connecting students across Asia and involving them in hands-on experiments, the project cultivates a sense of unity and wonder.
